LET’S GET REAL: OUR DAY JOBS

DAY JOBS

Today’s post is a little bit different from what you guys are used to. But we feel like it’s important to always keep things real. As much as we love blogging, and believe us when we say we love it, day jobs are still a thing. There are a lot of bloggers that like to keep things a mystery. It seems like they don’t want to admit that they still work a full-time job. No, we are not calling anyone out. We just see a trend across the board. As wonderful as it would be to dedicate every single day to our blog, it’s just not possible at this point. We gotta make that money okurrt! That’s where today’s blog post comes into the picture. We’ve told you guys about our day jobs before but not in-depth — that was until today. We’re going to tell you the truth about what we do every day when we aren’t working on the blog.

MIKE’S DAY JOB

NURSE

I work as a nurse on a telemetry floor. Basically, I work with patients that are dealing with some sort of heart issue. But I’m not limited to just that. I treat just about everyone. From alcohol intoxication to heart issues, I see a ton. I work three night shifts a week. Sometimes I work three nights in a row, while other weeks it’s more spread out. I also work outside of the city, which means I have a commute. Guys, sometimes the drive sucks. Traffic can be an actual nightmare. Most days the commute is 45 minutes. True story: I was stuck in traffic a few weeks ago for THREE HOURS. Seriously, three hours. I left our house at 5:30 PM and didn’t make it to work until just after 8:30 PM. Needless to say, I was late lol.

My shifts are 12 hours long. I start work at 7 PM and leave at 7:30 AM the next day. I’ve always been a night owl so I knew I wanted to work the overnight shift. But sometimes it can get pretty tiring. Luckily, I’m almost always running around so I don’t even get a chance to let myself feel tired. Though, when 3 AM rolls around, I usually start to feel it. That’s where coffee comes into the picture.

The one way I do make sure my body is ready to stay up all night is by sticking to a strict sleep schedule the night before I start my shift. The night before my shift, I force myself to stay awake until 5 or 6 AM. Yes, it’s tough. I always make coffee around 11 PM to give myself a boost of energy. By staying up so late, I can sleep until 4 PM and then be ready to stay up all night for work. This helps me so much! I still get tired but not as much as I would if I didn’t prep my body like this.

Being a nurse is so rewarding. I love helping others. It truly is amazing to help someone in need. I work with some amazing nurses that have become great friends. If you are a nurse or in the health field, go you! You guys are making a huge difference in the world each and every day.

ALEX’S DAY JOB

REAL ESTATE EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

I work as an executive assistant for a real estate agent. I’ve worked in real estate for the past 4 years. As I say that, it blows my mind to think that much time has passed. Most of you know that we both went to college for the same degree — bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences.  Lucky for me, I had a life crisis senior year of college and completely changed my mind with my career path. Hence, my entrance into the real estate world. I grew up surrounded by a family real estate business. That’s one of the reasons that pulled me in that direction.

Though I do have my real estate license, I don’t actually buy or sell houses. I work with an agent to help facilitate the transactions. That can be anything from working with mortgage companies, title companies, and clients to make sure everything runs smoothly. I recently moved to a new office that I absolutely love. Guys, you can bring your dog to work. I would totally take Toby to work if he weren’t such a trouble maker lol. The main part of my job that I love is the flexibility. It’s really helpful being able to work around our blogging schedule. It helps us stay on top of things and not miss as many important meetings or events.

Though I do have some flexibility, I’m in the office almost daily. I may work from home on certain days but I like coming into an office setting. It helps me stay focused and motivated. Plus, I get to play with dogs.

The one thing that does make life difficult is our opposite work schedules. One of us is always sleeping while the other is working. We’re actually working on a blog post right now all about how we balance everything so stay tuned!

See, everything isn’t as glamorous as you might think. That’s why we really try to give you guys a BTS of our lives on Instagram. We try to take you with us each day no matter what we are doing. This way you guys can really get a sense of what life is really like.

Hopefully, you guys liked learning a bit more about us. We always want to keep it real with you. Just remember, having a day job doesn’t have to hold you back from your passion. If you want something bad enough, you’ll make it work. That’s what we do!

Until next time…
