LOVE, VALENTINE’S DAY, AND RELATIONSHIPS

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s February 14th and it’s the day of love. Well, mainstream love. But we will get into that in a second. This year we are keeping it pretty lowkey. Alex’s mom is coming to stay with us for a few days so we aren’t doing anything crazy. We are going to spend the day together until Alex’s mom arrives. We’re actually super excited for her to get here so it’s all good!

VALENTINE'S DAY

Back to the whole “mainstream love” point. We totally get Valentine’s Day — it’s a fun holiday dedicated to love and happiness. What’s not to like, right? But on the other hand, we always say that love should be celebrated every single day — not just one. For us, we try to show each other acts of kindness and love all year long. Now we totally get that there are a ton of people out there who think vday is just a fun way to go above and beyond. That’s fine. We totally agree. We’ve done the same thing over the years. But there are also a ton of people that kind of just skate through the year (and relationship) thinking they can make up for it on the 14th. That is definitely not the right attitude. If you do go all out for this day, it should be for the right reasons. Make sure you’ve been showing love all year long. This should just be another day dedicated to love. Let us be clear — we do love Valentine’s Day. It just should be for the right reasons.

We also understand that Valentine’s Day can be really hard for some people. If you’re single, this day can really affect your mental health. We have friends that absolutely hate this day, for various reasons. It can make you feel sad to see all of those couples out there, especially on social media, posting about their love. If you’re in this boat, we urge you to take a moment to think. You have no idea what their relationship is really like in the real world. Don’t beat yourself up because you don’t have what they have. Love is out there for everyone. When you really think about it, Valentine’s Day can be a day to celebrate the love you have in every other aspect of your life. Think of all the friends and family you love. Rather than allowing yourself to become upset on this day, change your perspective. Take stock of all the love around you. That’s the perfect way to celebrate this day.

We really want to hear what you guys think? Whether you are single or in a relationship, what are your thoughts on this day? Let us know in the comments below!
