Giving Back During the Holiday Season

Blogmas Day Three

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We all focus on buying gifts for loved ones, decorating, and traveling. But it’s also important to take a step back and practice gratitude and in turn give back to those in need. We haven’t always been the best at this. But we’ve been on a journey this past year of being more mindful of where we are and what we have. The amount of people in need just in our city alone is heartbreaking. That’s why we are being more active this year with giving back during the holiday season. Of course, we want to continue this all year long too.

There are so many different ways you can help those in need. It doesn’t always have to be in the form of a donation. Sometimes donating your time or resources can be the most impactful. We’ve pulled together a list of ways to give back this holiday season in hopes that it will inspire you to help those in need.

Volunteer at Homeless Shelters

The holiday season puts even more pressure on homeless shelters. The cold weather means the shelters are usually flooded with people in need. You can search for a local shelter using this directory.

Volunteer at Animal Shelters

We are huge animal lovers and the holidays can be so hard for our furry friends. You can look up local animal shelters and donate your time or money to ensure those cuties are safe and warm. Volunteer as a dog walker or just stop in and show them some love. Anything helps.

Sponsor a Family

This is something we are looking into right now. You can reach out to your local newspaper or community center to find a family that might be struggling to put food on the table. We love the idea of getting to know a family and helping put a smile on their faces during the holiday season.

Donate Clothes

This is so easy to do. It also helps force you to purge your closet. There really isn’t any excuse not to do this one!

Pay It Forward

We love doing this all year long but especially during the holidays. We usually do this at the coffee shop or a lunch spot — we will pay for the person behind us to spark a little joy. It’s amazing what a small act can do for someone.
