Home Update

If you’ve been following along over on IG, you know we’ve had some major home issues lately. But in case you missed it, we wanted to share the story and what’s in store for the space. Unfortunately, the pot filler malfunctioned in the middle of the night and was on for at least 5 hours. That meant the kitchen was flooded and the water then filled the basement with 5 inches of water. Insane, right?! Waking up the following morning was truly an out-of-body experience. Seeing water everywhere honestly made us sick to our stomachs. All of the work we put into our home was instantly erased. After we panicked and shed a few tears, we got it together and started the process of remedying the situation. That meant calling insurance, water mitigation, you name it. The first few days were pretty hectic. But fast forward to today we finally feel like things are moving forward.

Dealing with insurance has been a learning experience, to say the least. Luckily, we found a great contractor to help us through all of this. Hopefully, within the next week, we should be starting the renovation. There is a lot of work that needs to be done. First up, the basement is being fully gutted. The carpet has already been ripped out and the drywall needs to be replaced. We have exciting plans for down there so stay tuned for that. For the main floor, the wood flooring needs to be replaced. That means in the kitchen, dining, and living room areas. Next up, all of the cabinets need to be replaced. To be clear, the upper cabinets weren’t damaged. But since we have to replace all of the lowers, we are making some other tweaks to the space. We also need to replace the stove and a few other things. Honestly, writing this post feels a bit overwhelming. However, with what we have planned, we’re also super excited to see it all come together. We’ve decided to take this all as a gift rather than a negative situation. We are still unbelievably grateful to have a home and after this is all done, the space will be better than before. Lots more content coming soon so stay tuned!
