There’s a huge misconception about facial oil. We get it. When most people hear the word oil, they freak out. No one wants oily skin. But in reality, facial oil helps just about every skin concern. We can’t stress this enough — everyone should be using oil in their skincare routine.
Let’s start with the most common misconception. Facial oils do NOT make your skin more oily. We know that can be hard to understand. But we promise it’s true. In fact, adding a facial oil to your routine actually helps combat oil production. If you have oily skin, it’s because your body is overproducing. By adding oil, you are telling your body to take a break. The crazy part? Your body listens. It senses the oil and doesn’t produce as much! Alex has super oily skin and can attest to this.
Facial oils are also super moisturizing. If you have dry skin, you need oil in your life, especially during the cold months. It’s the ideal remedy for dry, flaky skin. Oils can be much more effective than your actual moisturizer. It can also help calm red, irritated skin. Many oils have anti-inflammatory properties. That means it can help calm and soothe your skin.
Applying oil should be the last step in your skincare routine. We like to think of it as the cherry on top. After you’ve applied all of those good products to your skin, you want to seal it all in. Facial oils do just that. They not only add moisture but create a barrier for your skin by locking in all the good and keeping out all the bad.
Facial oils also help reduce wrinkles. We all want this, right? Fine lines and wrinkles come from a lack of hydration. Since facial oils are so moisturizing and nourishing, adding this step to your routine helps combat the signs of aging. Pretty great, right?
We can’t stress this enough — oil is a good thing. Don’t be so scared to try this out. Honestly, we both have been using facials oils for years and can’t say enough good things. We promise your skin will thank you!
