The Blogmas finish line is getting close and we can’t believe it. Get ready for something special at the end! But until then, for day 10, we want to talk about why the holidays mean so much to us. Also why we make such an effort to dress up during the holiday season. This might sound silly but it really is something we intentionally think about.

Let’s first start with why the holidays are so special to us. Starting on November 1st, we feel like something changes in the air. For the first time in the year, it feels like everyone starts to rally around one central theme. No matter what you celebrate, you are celebrating something during this season. Looking around, it feels good to know that a lot of us are thinking the same thing. Who is coming into town to visit? What are we cooking? Are we traveling to see friends or family? We are all asking ourselves the same questions. We all feel the same anxious stress when we’re in the kitchen the night before frantically whipping up some recipe we just scoured the internet for, in hopes, it turns out alright. Now that’s not to say there aren’t many people out there who have a different outlook on the holiday season. For some, it brings up sad memories and tough family situations. During this time of year, we are always very aware of that. We make a conscious effort to spread kindness and love everywhere we go (though we try to do that all year long). We reach out to those in need and try to lift them up. We want everyone to experience the same joy and happiness we feel. This is also a time where we count our blessings daily. We remind ourselves how grateful we are to have our health, happiness, family, friends, the list goes on. It’s also good to remember that no matter what you are feeling during this time of year, there is probably someone else out there in the same boat. In a way, that is comforting. Don’t be afraid to reach out if you are in need. For the majority of people, kindness is second nature. We all want to help spread love and joy during the holiday season. That’s something we can all get behind.

Now onto why we take dressing so seriously during the holiday season. This might seem silly but we really do think about this a lot. Let’s just focus on Christmas day since that’s what we celebrate. We like to make the day feel like a special event. We only have one day a year when we can turn off the outside world, slow down, and enjoy the day. First thing in the morning, we start with a big breakfast and usually mimosas because hello, it’s a holiday. We throw on our favorite matching pajamas and slowly ease into the festivities. After a few hours of chatting, eating, and exchanging gifts, we move onto the next part. We change into cozy outfits and work on prepping dinner. We have holiday music playing in the background, appetizers spread across the kitchen island, and usually a glass of wine in hand. We want it to feel special. Again, it’s a holiday that only comes around once a year. We might even take a break to pop on a holiday movie to get in the spirit. Next comes the main event — dinner. We like to reset and make this feel like a different part of the day. We shower and change into something new. Maybe it’s a blazer and turtleneck, or a festive sweater, regardless of the choice, it needs to feel special. The right outfit has the ability to change your entire mood. Even if it’s just the two of us, we still do this. We don’t ever want to lose what makes the holiday special. Go all out, dress to the nines, light some candles, and set the mood. You’d be surprised at what the power of an outfit can do for your mental state. We know it can be easy to just stay in comfy clothes all day but taking that extra step really does make a difference. Especially given the state of the world right now. We aren’t able to travel like normal or see as many people as we’d like. Don’t let that change your plans. Even if it’s just you — make it special for yourself. Sending you lots of love. xo
