Instagram: one of our serious obsessions. We love having a place, other than our blog, to showcase our photos and life. For us, Instagram is something we really work on. We take our time when thinking of pictures to post and what our theme should look like. Your theme is the overall look and feel of your Instagram feed. We like to have a cohesive page that is pleasing to the eye and is consistent with our other photos. A lot of people ask us how we edit our photos so we thought we would give you guys a quick tutorial!
Step 1: Select Your Photo/VSCO
Select your photo and import to VSCO. VSCO is a photo editing app with a ton of amazing features. For starters, it is extremely easy to use. This app has a ton of editing options. You can adjust brightness, saturation, and so much more. You’ve also got a ton of options when it comes to filters. The best part is the fact that it is completely FREE! Go download this app. Now.
Step 2: Select Your Filter
Choose your filter. We love the HB1/HYPEBEAST filter. This filter adds a bit of a blue tone to our photos. Next, select the intensity. This options allows you to choose how much of the filter you actually want. We always choose +10 for our photos. This helps keep our theme consistent.
Step 3: Exposure
Choose the exposure option. Depending on the natural light in the photo, we adjust the exposure accordingly. The more natural light there is, the less exposure we want. The more you practice, the easier this becomes. You’ll know what looks good as soon as you start playing with this app.
Step 4: Saturation
We like a more subdued look with our photos. If the photo is very colorful, we will turn the saturation down to match our theme. We don’t like to have intense colors when it comes to our feed. Of course, everyone has their own preference. If you like your colors to pop, you may want to turn the saturation up a bit. This all depends on how you like your photos to look.
Step 4: Temperature
We like to turn the temperature of our photos down a bit. This gives the photo a much more cool and subdued look. Remember, this is just our personal preference. You can do whatever you want with your photos!
After this, we save our photo. We choose “actual size” in VSCO. Once saved, you are ready to upload to Instagram. There are so many more options when it comes to editing. These just happen to be the ones we use the most. Just remember, your Instagram feed should represent you. If you like super bright photos, you may mess around with the brightness or saturation. This all depends on your personal taste. Get creative. This is your space to showcase your life. There is no right or wrong when it comes to Instagram. If you like it, then perfect! That is all that matters.
