How do you come up with decorations for a room? I always end up not liking it when done.
This is a tricky question because we totally relate to this. Whenever we start working on a room, we like to create a mood board — whether that’s on Pinterest or Canva. This way we can pull together pieces and colors we are learning towards. Having something like this allows you to visualize everything rather than guessing what it might look like together. Sometimes we will include something that we swore would look great but ended up clashing with the other pieces. Doing this prep work can save you a headache down the road. Also, don’t be afraid to be wrong. We are constantly changing things around. There is nothing wrong with that. Allow yourself and your style to be fluid and change with the times.
What are you looking forward to after Covid?
Hugs. Traveling. Friends. The list goes on and on.
How did you guys meet?
We’ve been together for (almost) 8 years. Wild, right? We met back in college while both studying the same major. Though this is actually a really winding story that wasn’t the easiest to navigate. Mike chased after Alex for a year — dedication, right? We both weren’t out yet and went to a very rural school. Not the easiest place to be yourself. We both had to come to terms with who we were individually before we could be in a healthy relationship together. Hence the year of limbo. Once we did start dating (junior year), we kept it a secret from everyone. We still didn’t feel like we could safely come out to everyone in our lives. We actually graduated college without telling most of our friends. There was some drama involved in all of that, too. Like the fact that one of our so-called best friends, who did know about our relationship, tried to out us to everyone. Fun, right? Oh the memories from college, In the end, it all worked out. We grew a ton from those experiences and learned a lot about ourselves and the strength of our relationship.
Do you use essential oil diffusers?
We actually just received one in the mail the other day! We used to be avid essential oil users but for some reason, we fell off. But we’re excited to start using a diffuser again!
Plans for the future? Starting a family? Marriage?
The famous question lol. Yes, one day we do want to get married but to be honest, we already feel like we are. We’ve been together for almost 8 years so we don’t feel like things will change that much for us. We definitely want to start a family one day. But we don’t feel like we are in the position right now. We have a lot of things we want to do before we slow down and bring children into the world. One day…
What drug store products do the trick vs. what products you should invest in
Oh, this is a good question and actually something we have been working on answering for you. We are writing a blog post right now breaking all of this down. It should be live in the next two weeks. Stay tuned!
What was the skincare line you tried with the raw overnight mask?
The brand is called Hear Me Raw. This is a new one to us but we became instantly intrigued once we found out about its sustainable packaging and refillable pods. So far we’ve only used it a few times and really liked the formula. We still have a few other products like the brightener and the clarifier. Keep you posted!
How do you edit your photos?
We don’t use presets. We edit most of our photos in Lightroom — exposure, contrast, sharpening, etc. Before uploading to Instagram, we usually add the A4 filter from VSCO and tweak it slightly.
How long do you plan to stay at your current home?
It will be two years this September since we bought this house. Since then, we’ve made a ton of changes. We truly love this house but we believe that as you evolve, so do your wants and needs in a home. We can love our current home but already have a list of things we would want in the next one — a garage, more storage, maybe even a pool. Realistically, we will stay here for another 3 years and then move. We want to use the profits of this house to upgrade to the next.
Do you always agree on home design choices?
We are really lucky to almost always agree on design choices in our home. If for some reason one of us is leaning towards something more than the other, we trust each other enough to go with it. We know this is definitely not always the case in most relationships!
How did you do the plaster effect on the guest bathroom walls?
We used a lime wash by Portola Paints. We have a blog post sharing the details. We absolutely love how it turned out!
